PROGRAM OUTLINE

MIB Level One

ONLINE THEORY FUNDAMENTALS 110 HOURS

The Online Theory Fundamentals consists of online video presentations,

digital modules, and web books using PivotPoint LAB.

These highly in-depth resources give our students the fundamentals they require to understand the theoretical portion of barbering to successfully complete

their exams and set their foundation before coming to campus.

During your first day, there will be a one-hour Zoom meeting with your instructor guiding you through the PivotPoint LAB online platform and what you can

 expect during your online training.

To ensure students stay on track and receive guidance from their instructor, weekly half-hour Zoom meetings are scheduled throughout the program. These meetings provide students with the opportunity to ask questions, clarify their understanding, and receive personalized feedback to enhance their learning experience.

Three weeks completed off-campus.

PRACTICAL FUNDAMENTALS 70 hours

During your Practical Fundamental Training, you will spend your first two weeks on-campus in the classroom participating in demonstrations, completing haircuts on mannequins, working with all types of hair including naturally textured hair, and participating in workshops on live models.

These two weeks in the classroom will set the foundation for your practical skills to prepare you for the hands-on Barber Practicum.

Completing the Masters in Barbering program is an important first step — but becoming a licensed Journeyman Barber requires a few additional steps.

Here’s what you need to become an Alberta Licensed Journeyman Barber:

1. Complete the Masters in Barbering program – You’ll graduate with a certificate from Canada School of Barbering, recognized by the province of Alberta.

2. Register as an apprentice – After graduating, you’ll need to register with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.

3. Complete 1,450 hours of on-the-job training – Gain real-world experience working in a barbershop as a registered apprentice.

4. Pass the government exams – Successfully complete both the theoretical and practical exams administered by the Government of Alberta.

Once you’ve completed all these steps, you will become an Alberta Licensed Journeyman Barber — a credential respected across the province and recognized in many other jurisdictions.

Have questions about the process? Contact us — we’re here to help guide you! ✂️

Yes, in many cases you can! An Alberta Journeyman Barber credential is well-respected and recognized in several other provinces through interprovincial trade agreements.

However, because each province manages its own apprenticeship and certification system, recognition is not automatic everywhere.

Here’s what we recommend:

Check with the regulatory body in the province where you plan to work. They can confirm if your Alberta credential is accepted or if any additional steps are required.

For the most accurate information, always check directly with the province where you plan to work.
